The object of the game is to obtain the highest score after playing a number of rounds equal to the number of players.
1) With two players a game shall consist of two rounds. Each of the players shall be first for one round.
2) With three players a game shall consist of three rounds. Each of the players shall be first for one round, second for one round and third for one round.
3) With four players a game shall consist of four rounds. Each of the players shall be first for one round, second for one round, third for one round and fourth for one round.
Note: When the phrase "all the way in the Doquin block" is used, it means: a peg must be all the way in the Doquin block to the bottom of the hole (without any pegs in its path).
The object of a round is to be the first player to (1) capture a total of any combination of five opponents' playing pegs. Or (2) to get five of your playing pegs all the way in the Doquin block.
To begin the round each player chooses 10 pegs of the same color. The toss of a coin can determine in which order each player will play. The play always moves clockwise.
To play each player inserts one peg per turn into any available hole in any of the three playing sides of the Doquin block. The peg must be pushed as far into the Doquin block as possible. Once a peg is started into a hole it must be played into that hole. Once the play has been completed the Doquin block is passed on to the next player.
To capture an opponent's peg, you must while inserting one of your pegs touch the side of his peg with the end of your peg. The peg to be captured must already have the end of one or more of your pegs touching its side. Then you may remove the captured peg from the Doquin block. Only one peg may be captured in any one turn. After the captured peg is removed from the Doquin block, all remaining pegs must be pushed into the Doquin block as far as they will go. The sequence in which the remaining pegs are pushed in shall be made by the person who made the capture.
A round continues until a player, after inserting a peg for that turn, has either a total of five captured pegs or five pegs all the way in the Doquin block. If during the play of the round all the pegs are played and no player has yet captured five pegs or has five of his pegs all the way in the Doquin block, the round is considered finished.
To score at the end of each round each player gets one point for each peg that they captured and one point for each of their own pegs all the way in the Doquin block. The player who made the last play and ended the round with five captures or five of his pegs all the way in the Doquin block gets one bonus point. After the last round is played the game ends and the player with the highest total score wins.
