Onyx
Author: Larry Back, 1995
Onyx is a connection game that debuted in the Winter 2000 issue of Abstract Games Magazine. Onyx is unique among connection games because it has a capturing rule. But despite the capturing rule, Onyx has all the properties of any good connection game in that the rules are simple, the strategy is complex, positions do not repeat, the game must end, and someone must win. The capturing rule in Onyx adds an extra element to the tactics that other connection games do not have. The full story of the invention of Onyx as well as a complete description of the rules can be found at: Abstract Games Magazine.
Onyx can be played by e-mail at: Richard's PBeM Server.
